Ok, I saw some capes. I’m good.

This morning I took a fantastic, although ultimately unsuccessful, excursion to what I thought was a gluten-free bakery out in a residential area on the “new “side of town. It was definitely not a bakery, and they didn’t have any gluten-free products, except for ice cream (which was confusing). So my search for gf Pasteles de Nata goes on – but regardless, this was a really wonderful walk this morning.
I found all of the UNESCO sites that Eileen wants to see when she visits – the Joanina Library and other beautiful university buildings, as well as the botanical gardens.

Also went through a number of interesting residential and business districts with a full spectrum of eye-catching sights…

One more trip to the supermarket today to make sure I have snacks for Maura upon arrival from her long journey. This time I was very fast in the supermarket though, because now I am completely fluent in Portuguese Labels!
As a side note, except for that grilled fish lunch on the first day, I have been cooking my own meals this whole time. Eating really well and inexpensively, and being diligent about making meals for the next day. This feels really good, as I don’t do enough of that at home. But that changes this weekend – Maura is in the air and will be here this afternoon and we will need to sample the Coimbra fare❤️
Day two of working as a digital nomad was less discombobulating than day one, but full of tech problems. Monitor and accessories have not yet arrived through FedEx, so working off tiny surface laptop, and still squinting a lot. The package doesn’t seem to have moved from Porto on the tracking site. Not sure that’s going to work out…so we’ll make the laptop work if necessary.
Really loving this adventure so far.
